Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements: Hospitality Management Diploma

Welcome to the Centre for Hospitality Studies and Research! We are delighted to guide you through the admission requirements for our Hospitality Management Diploma program. Here's what you need to know to commence your journey with us:

Program-Specific Requirements:

Grade 12 Graduation or Equivalent: 

  • Prospective students must have completed Grade 12 or its equivalent to be eligible for admission.

English Language Proficiency: 

  • Proficiency in English is essential for success in our program. 

Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following methods:

  • Completion of English 12 with a minimum grade of 'C-' or equivalent.
  • Alternatively, applicants can demonstrate English language proficiency at a minimum English 12 'C-' level.


Additional Certificates

Upon acceptance into the program, students are required to complete the following certificates:

  • Alberta Food Handling Certificate: Equivalent to the Foodsafe Level 1 Certificate, this certification demonstrates that individuals have received training in safe food handling practices according to Alberta's health and safety regulations.
  • ProServe Liquor Staff Training: This certification is required for individuals who serve or sell alcohol in licensed establishments in Alberta. ProServe training covers topics such as responsible alcohol service, legal requirements, and strategies for preventing intoxication and underage drinking.

Age Requirement: 

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years old or a graduate of a secondary school. Some exceptions may apply; please contact us for more information.

  • Application Process: To apply, applicants must submit official transcripts and any other required documents as specified by the course or program. Seats are offered to eligible applicants based on the completion date of their applications, except for programs with competitive admissions. A complete application includes:

  • Application form

  • Evidence of educational prerequisites (e.g., transcripts)

  • Any required supporting documents (e.g., language proficiency)

  • Required deposit or fee payment (if applicable)

  • Note: Applications that do not meet the requirements for the term applied may be cancelled.

Prior to initiating the application process, carefully review the admission requirements for your chosen program. Ensure that you meet the stipulated criteria before proceeding with your application.


5. Application Form Completion:

Complete the application form with accurate and current information. Be prepared to provide detailed insights into your educational background, professional experience, and any supplementary pertinent information.


6. Application Fee Submission:

Remit the application fee securely. This fee is essential for facilitating the processing of your application and is non-refundable.


7. Review and Confirmation:

Before finalizing your application, review all entered information and attached documents. Confirm the accuracy and completeness of your submission.


8. Submission of Application:

Click the 'Submit' button to send your application to our admissions team. Following submission, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on tracking the status of your application.


Application Deadlines:

To ensure a seamless admission process, it is imperative to be aware of the application deadlines.


2024 Dates to Remember

  • Application Opening: May 15th, 2024

  • Application Deadline: Aug 1st, 2024

  • Student Orientation:  Late August 2024 TBD (Students will be advised by administration)

  • Classes Begin: September 9, 2024


The following documents are required for the CHSR applications:

  • Secondary school transcripts or equivalent

  • Previous academic certificates and transcripts

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Resume

  • Personal statement or letter of intent

  • Scores from English language proficiency tests (if applicable)
